Children available

Children 12 months of age and older are available for international adoption, after being in a national registry maintained by the Ministry of Justice for at least six months. The children arrive in the United States approximately between 20 to 24 months of age. The children are usually healthy. Children of Bulgarian, Roma and Turkish heritage are available for adoption and typically have an olive complexion, brown eyes, and brown or black hair.

Criteria for Adoptive Parents

  • Singles (women and men) are allowed to adopt.
  • Couples must be married (no domestic partnership is allowed)
  • The age difference between the parent and the child can be no more than 50 years for singles and for the younger spouse in a couple and no more than 55 years between he child and the older spouse.

Process

The approximate timeframe from dossier submission in Bulgaria to receiving a referral of a child under 36 months of age is between 24 and 36 months.The wait for a referral of special needs, a sibling group, or a child older than five years of age can be significantly shorter, usually under 6 months.

The placement and country fees to adopt from Bulgaria is $15,500 for services in order to adopt a healthy child and $11,000 for an older or special needs child. Fees do not include home study, post adoption and immigration fees and travel expenses.
